hex·a·chord [ héksə kàwrd ] (plural hex·a·chords)

Definition:
 
series of six musical notes: a series of six adjacent diatonic notes forming the basis of classical Greek and medieval music theory. There were three variants, the so-called natural, hard, and soft hexachords, which approximate to the modern C major, G major, and F major scales respectively.
